A visit to the Komenda Sugar factory by reporters of AGRIC TODAY reveals how deplorable the factory has become.

The Factory which is located in the Komenda-Edina Eguafo Abrem of the Central Region was constructed by the erstwhile NDC government through an Indian Exim Bank loan as part of Ghana’s grand vision of driving development through industrialization.
H.E. Former President, John Dramani Mahama, at the inauguration of the factory said the establishment of the factory would add value to the lives of the people of Komenda and create jobs for more than 7,300 people.
However, the community is yet to feel the impact of the $35 million facility which has been inactive after testing its operation for 3 months since it was launched in May 2016.
It was an emotional provoking sight to see the entire facility at the mercy of the weather and animals. Months of inactivity and the long absence of maintenance have left many of the parts of the machines rusty and worn out.

According to the security men who happen to be the only employees apart from the administration at the factory, government officials, including the trade minister, have visited the factory but they are yet to see any concrete effort by government to turn the current state of the factory.
