The President of the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Frederick Attakumah has reiterated the chamber’s commitment to continually engage stakeholders in the Agric sector to help, support and provide lasting solutions to boost food security in Ghana.
“As a chamber, we believe that agriculture is fundamental to our human existence and that Ghana has most of the basic building blocks necessary for not only achieving food sufficiency but also in becoming a major exporter of agro – produce.” he states. He made this statement when he addressed some stakeholders in the Agric sector at a breakfast event on investing in Agriculture.
According to him, Ghana has the requisite blocks to produce food for its citizens and even export some beyond the country’s borders for export.
Mr. Attakumah however indicated that Ghana can only provide enough food to feed itself and become a major exporter in the sub region if agribusiness is considered a priority.
He questioned that “what is the roadmap to maximizing value addition to our agro-produce so as to create more jobs and significantly increase revenues and how the various policy initiatives such as the one District- factory, one village one dam and planting for food and jobs are working together to support agribusiness in the country?.
The chairman of the Ghana National Best farmers and fishermen Association, Mr. Davies Korboe, on his part said Agriculture is the game chamber in the country’s attempt to be independent of other countries. He stressed that there are numerous policies in agric sector but authorities within the sector have failed to implement them. He advised the youth to go into agric sector as it is one of the most profitable businesses that offers job opportunities along the value chain.
