The farm manager at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) operating the Green House Estate Project has appealed for support from private investors to augment government’s efforts to increase production. Mr. Sam Anning said this when Agrictoday news team visited the farm at Dawenya in Ningo-Prampram municipality.
In his view, “there are more domes that need production but cannot be undertaken by government alone”. He therefore appealed to the private sector and corporate organisations for support.
Mr. Anning further noted that hybrid tomatoes, for example, have a high production rate compared to others. Hybrid tomatoes take 3 months to reach harvest and can also be harvested continuously for one month, which means one tomato tree is harvested repeatedly for four weeks unlike the normal one that is harvested only once.
According to him, the harvested products are sold to ‘off takers’ in weights at farmers market in Tema which is peculiar in the area. Mr. Anning however stated that they are unable to produce more to meet the demands of their customers due to the high cost of production.
This, he said, has affected their business in many ways and he is therefore appealing to private investors and other stakeholders for support.
