Ten women across the continent have received training in agribusiness through the Ignite Africa Women in Agribusiness programme.

Ignite Africa Women in Agribusiness is a flagship training programme spearheaded by Guzakuza which seeks to nurture and support ground breaking ideas in agribusiness and related fields.

The programme took on board 10 women from various African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda and The Gambia, and nurtured them in various aspects of agribusiness with a sharp focus on how to develop viable business ideas and transform these ideas into concrete and profitable businesses.

Speaking on the programme, Dr. Alex Ariho, the Chief Executive Officer of the African Agribusiness Incubation Network, lauded the bold initiative by Ignite for organizing such a programme to address some of the teething challenges in the agriculture sector. In his perspective, these challenges include the low attraction rate of the youth in the agriculture sector and Africa’s inability to add value to its raw agricultural products. According to him, the future of Africa is for the youth to get into agribusiness and add value to the primary products. He advised that African countries must desist from the colonial culture of exporting raw materials and instead think about innovative ways of adding value to attract a wider market.
