The Chief Executive Officer of the African Agribusiness Incubator Network, Dr. Alex Ariho, has joined the chorus of many in articulating very strongly that it is time for Africa to tell its story differently. “One of the key things that we need to change at continental level is telling the story of Africa differently. We must tell our story that Africa is not a continent of beneficiaries or beggars but a continent of potential partners” he said.
He made this known as the keynote speaker on the Ignite Africa Women in Agribusiness programme at Dzowulu in the Greater Accra Region.
According to Dr. Ariho, the future of Africa is for the youth to get into agribusiness and add value to the primary products. He admonished that African countries must desist from the colonial culture of exporting raw materials and instead think about innovative ways of adding value to attract a wider market.
He also advised that the youths must go through mentorship and build partnerships with other people in order to avail themselves to best practices elsewhere. “Sixty to eighty percent of African startups fail not just because they don’t have the money to start but because they have limited opportunity for mentorship and accessing networks and partnerships”.
