Chamber of Agribusiness Partners Mdpi to Train Smes on Score Program.

The Ghana Chamber of Agribusiness in partnership with Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) has organized a two day intensive training for small and medium enterprises on the SCORE program.

The Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) program is an International Labour Organization program that seeks to improve productivity and the working conditions of Small and Medium Enterprises worldwide.

Consultants from MDPI who facilitated the SCORE program took trainees through workplace cooperation, quality management, clean production, human resource management and occupational safety and health management. This, according to the lead consultant and coordinator of the training Mr. John Mensah, will see the SMEs owners growing and sustaining their businesses for improved productivity.

Doctor Courage Bessah-Adanu, the Senior Advisor to the Chamber of Agribusiness and intellectual property rights and Apicultural activities, speaking to Agric Today media said the SCORE training programme would equip its members with the needed skills to enhance their operations. It would also meet the standard of the new era of doing business with international donors and partners.

“The chamber of Agribusiness thought that its members who are in diverse ways involved in agricultural value addition and the businesses around agriculture needed some skill sets that could enhance their operations as such the partnership with MDPI”, Dr Courage Bessah-Adanu said.

He again stated that the Chamber of Agribusiness and MDPI are committed to organizing the training for SMEs in the Agribusiness value chain and other artisan organizations nationwide. Furthermore, Doctor Bessah- Adanu said it is the desire of the Chamber to see its members do well and have healthy businesses.

According to Christian Mensah Sewordor, the representative of the Chamber of Agribusiness and CEO for the African Center for business incubation said the theoretical aspect of the training will be followed by “onsite consultative visit” where the consultants will monitor the trainees and score them for their certification. He further stated that the trainees will be certified by MDPI with support from ILO standards.

The SCORE training program is set to continue for the next six months after which an evaluation will determine the furtherance of the training for a year.
