Covid-19: Kent Farms Calls for Collaboration to Help Solve Food Security Amid Covid-19.

Food Security is a critical issue that every country must consider during this Covid-19 pandemic period. According to the United Nations, the number of people who cannot get enough food to eat could double by the end of the year that is more than a quarter of a billion people. This includes poor developing countries affected by economic crisis amid the Covid-19 and climate change.

The question is how can the availability of land be put into use for food production this time? Can the food available be sufficient for Ghanaians at the end of the year if the pandemic continues? Of this that Kent Farms calls on investors, corporate organizations to collaborate to harness a vast land acquired at Simpa in the Tarkwa district and Dompim in the shama district, all in the Western region for cultivation to produce food to Solve a fractional proportion of food security in the country.

The Executive Director of Kent Farms, Richard Addison in an interview with Agric Today news said that Kent Farms has acquired a vast land at Shama and Tarkwa district to produce a variety of food crops to meet local satisfaction. According to him, the aim is to produce a larger quantity to reduce the importation of Food crops in the country.

“Kent farms has been in existence over five (5) years now and what we produce is rice. Rice is one of the most imported commodities in Ghana and it is our aim to produce rice on a larger quantity than we used to do. As a result of this, we have been able to acquire a vast land and we want to engage all stakeholders to contribute to the development of the land for rice and other crop production”, he uttered.

This is the concept packaging of the rice to be produced by Kent Farms.

In helping develop the land for cultivation, the district Agric Directorate has offered the services of the Agric extension officers and some of the youth to engage in the production as a means of employment.

To Mr. Addison, he is very ardent to see the youth venturing into the agricultural sector. “It is my focus to get more young people who are interested in farming to go into it”, he said.

Placing emphasis on the production, he said production would end on the table of the consumer. This he indicated that there would be value-added addition for every crop that would be produced.

The Strategic Investor of Kent Farms, Trigmatic entreated all investors to put a premium on this project to make good use of the land, create employment, and help solve food security in the country.

He assured that for security and traceability purposes a channel has been created where individuals, young average Ghanaian can invest in Kent Farms and still be able to monitor the growth of Kent Farms and their investments and would be able to have knowledge of their returns.
