Engage drama to project messages across the agriculture value chain-WFP.

Drama is the specific mode of fiction represented in a performance like a play, poetry recital, and among others. Drama is a tool that enhances teaching and learning among all races and groups of people. To ensure adequate dissemination of information in the agriculture value chain, the World Food Programme has urged stakeholders to use drama as a means of educating farmers and producers in the value chain.

Madam Vera Boohene, the Partnership and Communications Officer of World Food Programme said this during the launch of a drama troupe formed to articulate topical of concerns and to promote the agricultural sector. The drama troupe by the name Dynamics Works NGO and Drama Troupe was launched at National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in Accra.

At the launch, Madam Boohene lauds the importance of drama to the sector, “drama is very important, it plays a key role in engaging people and interesting them in all fields of economic activities”. She stated that her office has patronized the drama troupe couple of times on important topical issues and the message outreach was massive.

She explained that the concept of integrating drama into the agriculture value chain could be used as advocacy to project topical messages like post-harvest losses, nutrition, and encourage the youth to venture into the sector.

“Youth in farming is such an area that we all need to address and to engage the youth in agriculture, this is one of the medium that can be used to engage the youth. The Dynamic Works NGO and Drama Troupe are made up of young individuals which makes it youth-led-activity, therefore, discharging their duties on the message of the youth’s interest would attract their colleagues into the sector”, she noted.

The Director of Yara Ghana, Mr. Kwame Okyere expressed his interest in the Drama Troupe, saying is a good initiative that needs to be explored.

Speaking to Agric Today Media, Mr. Okyere commended the initiative as a good tool that can have good possibilities when it is merged with other aspects like extension services.

To him, this could be used to get the attention of the people who are involved in the agriculture value chain by disseminating vital and topical information to the people especially the youth.

He encouraged the CEO of the Dynamic Works NGO and Drama Troupe to come up with good policies and programmes that deem fit to solve the challenges that the sector is facing.

Madam Gloria Cann, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dynamic Works NGO and Drama Troupe, expressed her gratitude to all who graced the occasion.

She assured that Dynamic Works NGO and Drama Troupe would do all possible to contribute its quota to the development of agribusiness in the sector. She mentioned that the drama troupe would educate the farmers through drama performance, jingles, poetry recitals, and songs.

She urged all stakeholders to embrace this initiative to help change the status quo in the agriculture sector.
