150 young individuals including the physically challenged have been given three days of intensive capacity building in agribusiness.
The training with the title; It Is Possible, a national agricultural capacity building and business set-up roadshow organized by the office of Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings in partnership with Agrihouse Foundation has given training to the youth in rabbit, mushroom, and snail farming.
“This is to change the face of agriculture because agriculture is perceived to be a backward activity for the aged and people in the rural communities, this program is bringing to the youth in the urban centers and persons with disabilities the opportunities and the business aspect in agriculture”, Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings said
The roadshow is to empower people economically. Empowerment is the ability to practicalize and raise revenue from the knowledge gained for sustenance.
According to her, these ventures are to minimize the requirement of land that makes it possible for every individual to patronize without the issue of land acquisition. “This to let people know that although the land is needed for agriculture production, these are activities that require less land, expertise and capital’, Hon. Zanetor added.
She urged the beneficiaries to apply the skills and knowledge acquired from the training to actualize the aim and objectives of the project.
She advised the youth not to close their eyes to the opportunities in the agriculture sector whether in terms of technology, finances, services, or value addition.
We are excited and passionate about contributing to growth, creating realistic and measurable job opportunities in order to see the industry more developed and skilled”, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Madam Albert Akyaa Akosa explained.
To leave a strong legacy, the organizers have formed fundamental cooperatives to strengthen and sustain the activities of the beneficiaries.
She acknowledged the sponsors and supporting partners for their immense contribution to the development of the youth as the program is concerned.
In an interview with Agric Today, Macklin Astu, a beneficiary and physically challenged lauded the organizers for coming out with such a great initiative for highlighting the opportunities in the agriculture space.
As a rabbit trainer, he is willing and ready to train other youth in rabbit production. “I want to be a rabbit tutor to train the youth on everything that goes on in rabbit production. I am very happy to be part of this training”, he gladly said.
He urged the youth to patronize such programmes and get occupation for sustenance.
