Two tomato traders were killed in an armed robbery attack in Burkina Faso.

Two Ghanaian tomato traders have died while three others are in critical conditions after armed robbers attacked five tomato importing vehicles at Tambolo near Dakota in Burkina Faso about half a mile from the Ghana border at Paga

The five vehicles were on their way from Ghana to Burkina Faso to buy tomatoes when the armed robbers attacked and shot at them intermittently killing one instantly at about 7 pm on Saturday.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. David Fianko-Okyere, the Public Relations Officer, Upper East Region confirm that the injured traders are responding to treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the Wa Memorial hospital

“We are trying to get in touch with the authorities at Burkina Faso to ascertain the report that was sent so that we can get accurate information about the incident”, ASP Fianko said.

According to one of the drivers, the armed robbers shot their vehicle compelling them to halt movement and this led the robbers bringing out all the traders and demand their monies.

Kofi Nti, the driver said they shot at the windscreen and killed one instantly, while the other trader died after sustaining a severe injury and bleeding profusely.

The traders said the armed robbers numbering about seven fled on motorbikes after the attack.

Nana Yaa, one of the traders said her sister was the one who died instantly after the robbery. She, apart from losing a relative and receiving beatings, lost CFA 870,000.00.

Madam Sophia Nsiah, another trader said she lost all her CFA 90,000.00 that is meant for her business.
