Ghana is preparing to import plantain from Rwanda when the need arises to enhance food security in the country.
This was revealed by Captain Smart on his morning show called Onua Maakye on Onua TV this morning.
According to him, preparation is underway to import plantain from Rwanda to feed the people of Ghana.
Rwanda has no fertile soil to produce plantain rather, the country imported black soil from other countries for plantain production. Rwanda now produces plantain to the extent of exporting the surplus to other countries like Ghana which has about 90% of its land being fertile.
Asante Akyem Agogo is one of the towns in Ghana that produces plantain in large quantities. Due to the high production of plantain in the area, a festival has been instituted each year by the name “Agogo Golden Plantain Festival”. What is worth celebrating if Ghana is to import plantain from Rwanda?
