Associate Professor, Courage Kosi Setsoafia Saba of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has been appointed the second time by the United Nations and World Health Organization to join FAO/WHO expert meetings on microbiological risk assessment (JEMRA).

JEMRA is an international meeting of scientific experts administered jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide scientific advice on microbiological hazards including recommendations on risk management options aimed at improving food safety. JEMRA is tasked with the evaluation of different aspects of microbiological risk assessment throughout the agrifood system.

The Associate Professor was selected among the roaster of experts including names of scientific experts selected following public calls for experts on risk assessment of microbiological hazards related to food safety. All applications to the call were reviewed by the FAO/WHO Secretariat and by external referees, and selections were made on the basis of the criteria outlined in the call for experts.

Scientists from the roster will be considered for future meetings of JEMRA according to the expertise required for the respective meetings.

Before participating in the meetings, selected experts will be required to declare any potential interests associated with the subjects under consideration through the completion of the standard declaration of interest form of either organization.

When making selections for individual meetings, a balance of scientific expertise, gender, and geographical representation will be considered. Yet, all experts will be expected to participate in their individual capacities and not as representatives of their countries, governments, or organizations.

He will be part of the roaster of experts for the next five years after which the roaster will be updated. A big congratulations go to Associate Professor for such an immense contribution in the global context.
