The Queen Mothers in Ghana have called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to engage directly with farmers to understand the challenges the farmers encounter during production.

Nana Taabea, the Queen Mother of Dormaa Gyasi made this call during the gathering of the Royals, a staunch event organized by the Agrihouse Foundation in collaboration with the Queen Mothers Foundation, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Chieftaincy with the theme “Seeds of Change: Cultivating Gender Equality in Agriculture and Honoring Women’s Advancement” at Accra.

Nana mentioned that farmers are the direct actors of food production, and they encounter real challenges on the field of production. Yet there is no redress to the challenges by the government.

“Farmers go through a lot of challenges in the production process, the Ministry should visit the farmers on the farms to understand the challenges that the farmers go through and address them”, Nana Taabea said.

Moreover, she called for reviving cold stores and food distribution centers.

“Cold stores and food distribution centers should be revived to advance farming, contribute to the profitability of the agriculture sector, and reduce the cost of transporting produce,” urged Nana Taabea.

Nana Taabea admonished the significance of connecting with farmers from whom Queen Mothers and women can learn valuable skills and insights into farming.

“We must connect and network with the farmers whom we can learn from, apply their knowledge, and produce rather than solely relying on financial assistance”, she stated.
